Order Up, Fresh Design

George Brown Culinary School has been called home for many popular TV shows like "Top Chef and "The Next Food Network Star." Enrollment at the culinary school has increased by 5o percent. However the increase in students brings another set of challenges. Administration was worried  that the St. James Campus, in downtown Toronto, was not fully equipped to properly educate the increasing amount of students. Plus the school was long overdue for a fresh look to reinvigorate its identity in the surround community.

The project encompassed two buildings, the main school building and a teaching restaurant with three stories of classrooms above. Instead of demolishing the existing structure the school invested in a $6-million renovation and adaptive reuse of the four story, 100-year-old Chef's House building. It has metamorphosed into a high-end student-run kitchen and has classrooms on the upper levels.
